Urrrk!

I love comic books. I love the pulpiness of them, I love the format, the low-quality paper, the fact that they often don't make a hell of a lot of sense.

But more than anything, I love the dialogue. How cool is it that the characters speak while they're getting pounded into the ground by crap villain of the month?

"Ouch! He's bitch-slapped me up-side the head!"

"Wonder Woman's lasso of truth has ensnared me! I can't help... but... tell... the... truth... YOU LOOK LIKE A MAN!"

"Don't worry - my adamantium-skeleton will protect me from anything - except THAT!"

I made all those up, but you know what I mean. Anyway, I'm currently reading the Superman/Doomsday omnibus which collects all the post death of Supes Doomsday stories into one bargain priced ma-hoo-sive volume. And what did I find within?

Why, this little gem of dialogue:

"No one has ever survived the omega beams - URRRK! - from point blank range."

Note to self: find a way of using "urrrk!" in everyday conversation...

At first I thought this was a post about Urkel. I was only momentarily saddened to find out that it wasn't.

I had to do some frantic googling to find out who Urkel was! Um, no, no Urkel here... But I hope you've now been inspired to insert an "urrrk!" into an everyday conversation!

I like to add sounds effects like "yoink" or "yink" or the "chucka chuckaaaah" out of that song from Ferris Bueller's day off.

Needless to say I will now add SHUK! to my repetoire.

I make noises when I'm driving, like screeeeeeeeech! and 'vrooooom'. But now that I know this has nothing to do with Urkel, I'm tempted to use it more often.

Shuk! too.

I'd be tempted to make strange sound effect noises more if the words actually appeared alongside me in a comic-booky fashion. That would be cool.

That said, I do like my transporter sound effect device at work - it causes no end of mayhem!!!
